Anog Ite is the Double Faced Woman. One of her faces is radiant and beautiful, the other one is hideous. She keeps her ugly face veiled most of the time. Everything in creation carries the double face within itself. Wakanka, the Seer, showed her ugly face openly and eventually conquered it. When Wakanka’s husband Wazi again saw Wakanka after years of banishment and looked into her eyes, he saw how the shadow of her ugly face no longer fell over her beauty. In her playful laugh and the twinkle in her eyes he recognized the young beautiful woman, Niteca Wigopa, who Wakanka had remained inside. Each of us houses the double face. Still, the ugly side of this face is so incredibly revolting we often don’t dare recognize it. Wakanka’s ugly face was revealed for all to see and this ultimately brought about her liberation. She was forced to own up to her own ugly face. This recognition allowed her to release it. So, only after you have recognized and accepted something are you able to let it go. Own your frustrations, your fears and pain. Speak out. You will start to feel how you are liberating yourself by verbalizing the things you’ve tried to hide so long. You will know recognition opens the door to release.
