Tipi Sapa, The Black Tipi

Receptivity

When a girl in the old days had her moon for the first time, she belonged to the Black Tipi, the tipi of the women. She would withdraw every moon into the Black Tipi. There she was instructed by the grandmothers about life and its feminine aspects; how to deal with her moon, lovers, sexuality and how to care for her children. All the women’s knowledge was carried over from generation to generation in the Black Tipi. Thus a deep understanding and great wisdom was accumulated among the women. They still knew the meaning of receptivity. It is the feminine quality of standing still, openness, letting things be and allowing things to come as they will. It is the opposite of the male quality of action, which is preferred in Western culture. The balance in our culture has been lost. Most of us are nearly always active, and rarely receptive. This is a good moment to withdraw and reflect on all the things you have experienced recently.
